The Government of Assam has officially released the Special Assam TET 2026 notification for Lower Primary and Upper Primary teachers in Bodo, Garo, Manipuri and Hmar medium schools. Eligible permanent residents of Assam can apply online through the official portal. Check eligibility criteria, exam pattern, application fee, exam centres and key instructions before applying.
This notification has been issued in accordance with Section 23 of the RTE Act, 2009, following the guidelines laid down by NCTE.

Online applications are invited from candidates who are permanent residents of Assam and intend to appear in Paper I (Lower Primary) and Paper II (Upper Primary) of Special Assam TET–2026.
Purpose of Special Assam TET 2026
- Considering the shortage of respective Language-I (L-1) teachers in a considerable number of Bodo, Garo, Manipuri and Hmar medium elementary schools of the State, applications are invited for Special Assam TET–2026.
- The qualified candidates of Special Assam TET–2026 will be eligible to participate in the recruitment process for teacher posts of elementary level schools, provided they have other academic and professional qualifications as per NCTE norms.
Eligibility Criteria
A. Permanent Residency
The candidate must be a permanent resident of the State of Assam.
B. Academic and Professional Qualification
The candidate must possess minimum academic and professional qualification as per NCTE norms.
Minimum Qualification for Lower Primary TET (Classes I to V)
Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known)
OR
Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.)
OR
Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education)
OR
Graduation and two-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known)
Minimum Qualification for Upper Primary TET (Classes VI to VIII)
Graduation and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known)
OR
At least 50% marks in Graduation and B.Ed.
OR
At least 55% marks in Post Graduation or equivalent grade and three-year integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed.
OR
Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.)
OR
Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 4-year B.A./B.Sc. Ed. or B.A. Ed./B.Sc. Ed.
OR
Graduation with at least 50% marks and 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education)
Note: Minimum percentage of marks in graduation shall not be applicable to those incumbents who had already taken admission to the Bachelor of Education or Bachelor of Elementary Education or equivalent course prior to 29th July, 2011.
Relaxation
Relaxation up to 5% in academic marks in HSSLC or Graduation shall be applicable for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/MOBC/PWD (PH) to appear in Special Assam TET–2026.
The degree of handicap in case of PH candidates should be minimum 40% and must be certified by the competent authority, applicable for both Paper I (LP Level) and Paper II (UP Level).

Paper I – Lower Primary (Classes I to V)

Duration of Examination
- Paper I: 2½ hours (150 minutes)
- Paper II: 2½ hours (150 minutes)
Additional 20 minutes per hour will be provided for visually impaired candidates.
Minimum Qualifying Marks
- General Category:
- 60% (90 out of 150)
- Minimum 18 out of 30 in Language-I
- SC/ST(H)/ST(P)/OBC/MOBC/PWD:
- 55% (83 out of 150)
- Minimum 15 out of 30 in Language-I
Important Points
- The test will be conducted as per syllabus uploaded on SSA and SCERT websites
- Candidates appearing for both papers must pay fees separately
- Examination fee must be paid online only
- Fee once paid will not be refunded
- Qualifying TET does not confer right to appointment
- Document verification will be done only during recruitment
- Submission of false information will invite criminal liability
- Incomplete applications will be rejected
- No correction requests will be entertained
No Negative Marking
There will be no negative marking.

Validity of Certificate
The Special Assam TET–2026 certificate shall remain valid for lifetime, unless otherwise notified by the Government of Assam.
